Art Contest:  "Small Farmers, Our Everyday Heroes"

Each year, Small Farms Week highlights the programs and activities conducted by Cooperative Extension at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University that support limited-resource, small-scale, part-time, and alternative-enterprise farmers. Small Farms Week 2024 honors the small-scale growers who put food on our tables. This year North Carolina A&T State University will be celebrating 38 years of honoring our local heroes!

This year the Forsyth County center will acknowledge our local farmers through interview highlights and an art contest. The expressive arts contest theme will give thanks and honor to our everyday heroes that put food on our tables.

ALL AGES are invited to submit photos of up to two expressive art pieces, such as:

  • poetry,
  • photography,

  • digital art,

  • sculpture,

  • drawing, or

  • painting

Fill out this form and email photos of art to cvrichard@ncat.edu (Instructions will be given throughout the google form) DEADLINE Monday, April 10th

"Why do you want thank a Small Farmer?":

Did you eat any vegetables, eggs, or a hamburger this week? Have you ever thought about where your food comes from? You might just have a local farmer to thank for the carrots at the school cafeteria or the cheese in the fridge! Small farmers in Forsyth County and across our state produce healthy local foods for us to eat year round! Join us and take a moment to thank your local farmers through art for the hard work that they do to feed us everyday!

Winners will be selected and announced following NC A&T Small Farms Week, March 24-30, 2024 and their art will be shared on N.C. Cooperative Extension and Forsyth County Websites and with local farmers. Winning artists will receive a prize.

If you have any questions about events for Small Farms Week or about the Expressive Arts contest, please contact Celine Richard, cvrichard@ncat.edu.
