2024 UUA QUUest Camps Counselor Application - Youth and Adults
The UUA Camping Ministries is committed to providing a meaningful, energizing, Unitarian Universalist camping experience for all youth. Each camper is treated with respect and kindness and celebrated for their individual gifts. Experiential activities create a sense of wonder and pride for the interdependent web of which we are all a part. Come join us as we work to provide this experience to our campers!

Both QUUest Camp Mountain West and Camp Blue Boat (a QUUest Camp) will be open to both MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH. Staff teams focused on planning will be designing content for both our middle and high school campers. Middle School staff will ensure content is appropriate for Middle School Youth.  At camp all staff will spend some time supporting the Middle School campers.

Camp Blue Boat 2024 will run from Sunday, June 30 to Friday, July 5 at N-Sid-Sen Camp & Retreat Center in Harrison, Idaho (6 days)
QUUest Camp Mountain West 2024 will run from Sunday, July 7 to Friday, July 12 at the Wyoba & Lions Camp facility in Casper, WY (6 days)

Note - ALL STAFF must be available to attend IN PERSON Staff Training for their camp on the dates listed below:
  • Camp Blue Boat on-site at N-Sid-Sen - Noon, Friday, June 28  to noon, Sunday, June 30
  • QUUest Camp Mountain West on-site at Wyoba - Noon, Friday, July 5 to noon, Sunday, July 7

NEW FOR 2024: We are offering two styles of staff positions.
  • On-Site Staff:  Staff who take on this position will be fully committed to their role at camp, but will NOT participate in the majority of the camp planning process (January through April). They will be members of Content Teams and will be required to participate in final planning meetings in May & June.
  • Planning & On-Site Staff: Applicants interested this role are fully committed to being active participants in camp planning in addition to being counselors at camp, and will receive an enhanced stipend.  These staff members will be key members of Content Teams that will meet approximately 3 hours a month from January through April and 1 to 2 hours per week in May & June.  They will plan the majority of the programs for camp, utilizing the Camp Theme and successful programs from the past as the foundation of their planning.  If applications for this role exceed capacity we may offer you an On-Site Staff role.

Youth - Junior Counselors:  This is an On-Site Staff position*, with the exception of Jr. Deans who will assist in planning. Jr. Counselors will be in a learning role at camp and will be members of Content Teams who are required to participate in final planning meetings in May & June. Jr. Counselors will be assigned to middle school or high school cabins to support and learn from Sr. Counselors.  Cabin assignments will be determined by our staffing needs.

YA/Adult - Senior Counselors:  Most positions may choose between On-Site Staff or Planning & On-Site staff.
The following positions MUST be members of the Planning & On-Site Staff: Deans, Sr. Site Artists.
Sr. Counselors will be assigned to lead either middle school or high school cabins. Cabin assignments will be determined by our supervision needs based on registration numbers. If you have a strong preference for one age group or another you will have the opportunity to indicate that in your application.

Adult Leadership Team - The Leadership Team is expected to participate in planning and be on-site for camp.  Exceptions can be made as needed, please indicate on your application if you anticipate challenges with the planning requirements of the role.

You must choose the Content Team positions for which you are applying.  You will be asked to rank your top three role choices.

  • page 4 for Adult Leadership Team
Once you know which Content Teams are your top choices, continue to Section 4.

Regardless of position - ALL staff who will be 18 yrs old by June 30/July 7th will be required to consent to a full criminal background check.

**Special note for youth graduating in 2024 who WILL be 18 years old by June 30th for Blue BOAT or July 5th for QUUEST - you may serve as EITHER a youth or YA staff member.
 
Youth staff will have more free time during the week to have a more combined staff/camper experience, YA staff have higher level of responsibility and are expected to act as mentors and adult leaders at all times. If you will be 19 by June 30th/July 5th you may ONLY serve as a YA Counselor.
