PVD48HFP24 - Equity Stipend

The Providence 48 Hour Film Project is committed to creating an inclusive event for people from all backgrounds. This is a lottery for three team leaders who wish to participate but would otherwise be prevented by financial barriers, prioritizing applicants from marginalized backgrounds (including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women and non-binary people, and people with disabilities). If a team is chosen, the team leader will either receive a rebate for the team fee, or the Providence 48 Hour Film Project covers their team fee at the time of their registration.

Deadline: Friday, June 14th 11:59pm

Winners of the stipend will be notified by email. Your name will not be published online.

A total of three stipends are available and will be awarded through a randomized drawing. If you have any questions about this criteria, email city producer Mel Rainsberger at pvd48hfp@gmail.com.

First steps

The stipend covers the team fee in full, whether the team signs up under Early Bird, Regular, or Late pricing. If you’re selected, this is the process we’ll follow:

  • If your team has already signed up and paid the team fee, your payment will be refunded.

  • If your team has not already signed up, you must start the signup process at https://48hourfilm.com/providence/48hfp, and stop at the payment screen. We need you to start your profile so we can complete payment on your behalf.

  • If your team drops out of the competition after receiving a stipend, you will be ineligible for the Equity Stipend in future competitions.

  • Each team can only receive one stipend. Do not submit multiple applications per team.

Who is eligible

To be eligible for the stipend, you must be part of a team competing in 2024 Providence 48 Hour Film Project. We can't fund other filmmaking endeavors at this time.

  • Because we prioritize applicants from marginalized backgrounds, we ask for information about applicants' backgrounds. That information is only used to confirm eligibility.

  • Eligible groups include BIPOC, LGBTQA+, women, non-binary, and people with disabilities. If we have missed any marginalized groups, please apply and write in your circumstance.

  • We want teams from a wide variety of backgrounds. We're not just looking for team leaders — your team is eligible to apply for this stipend as long as at least 50% of the team members come from a marginalized group.

  • If we receive minimal applications, the Providence 48 Hour Film Project may choose to not award all three stipends.

  • All stipend recipients, as participants in the 48 Hour Film Project, must abide by all 48HFP rules.

  • Recipients of the 2024 stipends may be ineligible for another Providence 48 Hour Film Project stipend until 2026. Our goal is to help the maximum amount of people participate in the filmmaking process and we will evaluate this policy on a year to year basis.
