Early Learning Framework: Does It Really Matter... to Me? -Alison Bledsoe
Date: October 23, 2020
Time: 10:30 AM-12:00 PM
Venue: Zoom
Presenter: Alison Bledsoe
Target Audience: Early Learning Educators (ECEs, primary teachers, StrongStart facilitators, and elementary administrators)

Description:
Are you wondering what the BC Early Learning Framework is and where it came from?

Wondering if the document is really that important to you and your work?

Wondering if it really matters in the midst of a global pandemic?

If yes, then join us for 90 minutes of information, reflection, and exploration - join us and decide for yourself.  Using the “What-So What-Now What” approach, this session will include a brief overview of the changes that led to this document, the Vision and Principles (and how these shape language/terminology), a snapshot of the four key practices proposed, and an invitation to consider how/if these hold meaning for you.

Alison has lived early years practice in many contexts and the BC Early Learning Framework has been central in much of her work as well as in her own growth and leadership development.
Block Play: Joyful, Creative, Constructive Learning - Fiona Morrison
Date: October 23, 2020
Time: 1:00-2:30 PM
Venue: Zoom
Presenter: Fiona Morrison
Target Audience: Early Learning Educators (ECEs, primary teachers, StrongStart facilitators and elementary administrators)

Description:
What do we know about block play in relation to children’s development (0-8 years)?

What learning happens when children play with blocks?

How can I capture, document, share, and celebrate the learning that happens during block play?

How does block play connect to the revised Early Learning Framework and the primary curriculum?

Fiona is a long-time primary teacher. Most recently, she was teaching a K-3 class in the Gulf Islands where block play was an integral part of the classroom. This session will be a playful, experiential session where we collaboratively explore how block play supports children’s development and how educators can support this type of learning. It would be ideal if you are able to be in a classroom with the blocks you have available when you Zoom into this session. Each Elementary School will receive a package of picture books that support block play (in English or French).
