2024 A Viral Enigma Registration - High Ability Event
Onsite – A Viral Enigma
High ability students investigate genetic concepts and DNA coding through the sequencing of nucleotides. By utilising a computer simulation, students will transcribe and translate their constructed sequence into a protein and observe the impact of mutations on the resulting protein, framed around how viruses use mutations to increase their virulence. The day concludes with the students engaging in Quantum Victoria’s bespoke Alternate Reality game, The Virus. Through the scenario-based challenge, students race against the clock as a global pandemic threatens civilization!

Time: 9:45am - 2:15pm
Location: Quantum Victoria, 235 Kingsbury Drive, Macleod 3085 VIC
Cost: Free

Online Companion Module – The Virus
This online companion module can be completed before or after the onsite visit. If you register for A Viral Enigma we will automatically give you access. Students investigate how a virus infects a cell and how we measure the impact of a viral infection on a global scale. The narrative is set in the context of a pandemic through five chapters.
