2024-2025 GWIS National Fellowship Program Committee Interest Form
Thank you for your interest in serving on the review committee for the 2024-2025 Graduate Women In Science (GWIS) National Fellowship Program competition. Each year, the program evaluates and selects several exceptional women scientists. One of the most important components of the organization’s success in promoting innovative researchers has been the careful reviewer selection and application feedback guidance for further improvement.

[ROLE OF THE COMMITTEE]
The committee plays a critical role in advancing the fellowship program’s goal to recognize emerging women scholars with great potential and to advance the participation of women in STEM and Social Science fields. This is a great opportunity to hone leadership skills, expand professional networks, advance the mission of GWIS, and gain practical experience as a grant administrator.

The committee is active between late January and mid-May: the required time commitment is about 8-12 hours per month for February and March and 3-4 hours per month in April and May. The work is accomplished primarily via email (virtual meetings are available upon request). On average, each member will manage roughly 5-15 applications, recruit (identify and solicit) independent reviewers for each application based upon area of research interest (serve as GWIS Application Reviewers themselves if desired), and make recommendations for awards.

[ROLE OF THE REVIEWER]
Reviewers will be contacted by GWIS Fellowship Committee members beginning in early March and will be assigned applications based on the potential reviewer’s area of expertise and agreement to conduct the evaluation. Qualifications include a PhD degree (depending on the subject area), prior experience reviewing grant applications, area of expertise, and/or recommendations from other researchers/reviewers. If you are interested in serving as a reviewer, please consult the fellowship reviewer webpage (https://www.gwis.org/page/fellowship_reviewer) for more details and complete the GWIS National Fellowship Program Reviewer Interest Form (t.ly/8v6A). Reviewers are expected to complete the assigned evaluation(s) no later than early May each year.

Please direct any questions or comments to fellowships@gwis.org. Thank you in advance for your time and commitment in advancing GWIS.
