Alec will speak about the role of lawyers and the media in the movement to abolish jails and prisons. He is the founder and executive director of Civil Rights Corps, a non-profit fighting injustices in the criminal-legal system around the country. CRC has designed and litigated innovative constitutional civil rights cases challenging various aspects of the punishment bureaucracy, including money bail, modern debtor’s prisons, and private probation. Alec is the author of the book Usual Cruelty: The Complicity of Lawyers in the Criminal Injustice System. He is also the author of a popular Substack about Copaganda.
