**Packets due to the high school on or before April 28th.**

Purpose:  The purpose of summer school is to provide enrichment opportunities, offer exploratory classes, and remediate deficiencies in required courses that may not be available during the traditional school year in areas that are needed by and/or of interest to the student.  Summer school is free to all students.

Enrollment:  Due to staffing, it is possible that not all students who register will be able to attend summer school.  Priority will be given to students who qualify for Extended School Year Services (ESY) and students needing remediation.  Registration will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis but enrollment may be based on need for student remediation.  This means that completing this registration form does not guarantee enrollment for summer school.  Notification of enrollment will be made via email prior to the start date.  The district intends to release this information near the end of May.

Bus Transportation:  Summer school provides transportation pick up and drop off services similar to the regular school year services.  Service points, routes and schedules will be determined after summer school registration is complete. The bus routes with estimated times will be sent home as soon as we receive all replies and determine summer bus route needs.  (See the Bus Transportation Request form later in this packet.)

Breakfast & Lunch:  Breakfast is served daily from 7:40 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and lunch is available for students during the school day.  Menus will be provided before the first day of summer school.   Regular school meal prices apply.  If your child qualified for free and reduced prices during the regular school year, they will also qualify during summer school.

Discipline:  All discipline policies outlined in the Hallsville R-IV Student Code of Conduct will be enforced during summer school and all related activities.  Inappropriate behaviors are unacceptable during summer school.  If a student violates the Student Code of Conduct they will be sent to the office where their parent/guardian will be called and the situation discussed.  Additional violations of the Student Code of Conduct may result in the student’s suspension for the remainder of the summer term.

Attendance IN-SEAT:  This year’s summer school curriculum is a concentrated 3-week program.  To be able to gain the most benefit from the summer program, students must attend ALL 12 days of summer school.

PLEASE NOTE: If a student misses a day for any reason, they will be dropped from their course and will not obtain a 1/2 credit.

Attendance ONLINE:  Students taking an online course for INITIAL credit will need to have access to the internet and device in order to complete coursework on their own.  On average a student takes approximately 60 hours to complete an online course for initial credit.  A student must complete their online course for initial credit at a passing grade (60%) within the summer school window of June 13th - 230th.  If a student does not, their unfinished coursework will be zeroed out and grade issued, possibly failing the student for the course.

Course Cancellations:  Course offerings and schedules will be subject to state funding, student enrollment and teacher availability.  Enrollment continues through the deadline listed at the top of this packet.  Registration confirmation letters including transportation information, teacher, and class schedule will be sent out later in May after the enrollment window has closed.  At that time, courses must meet adequate enrollment numbers to be offered.  Courses with small enrollments may be cancelled or combined with other offerings.   Courses are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis with priority consideration given to students with teacher recommendations for courses to meet specific academic needs.  Registrations received after the deadline will be accepted on a “space available” basis.

Out of District Students: The Hallsville R-IV Summer Session is not open to students from other school districts.
