Pollinator Advocate Application - 2024
Pollinator Advocate training is offered for free to community members. Please answer the following questions as completely as possible. Although we would love to enroll everyone who applies to the Pollinator Advocate program, there are only 20 openings each year. Our goal is to include individuals with diverse interests, experiences and backgrounds who can help us grow the movement to create climate resilient landscapes that support pollinators, thriving ecosystems and bring our communities together.  This is a City of Boulder program, and therefore, preference is giving to Boulder residents, although non-residents will be considered if space is available.

Applications close end of day on Sunday, May 9.

As a rule of thumb, a "native plant" is one that was growing in the local area prior to the arrival of Europeans. Non-native plants were introduced either purposefully or accidentally. Are you familiar with the concept of native and introduced plants? *
Have you ever grown or gardened with Colorado native plants? *
How interested are you in exploring the role of native plants in supporting pollinators, regardless of your level of gardening experience? *

Most people aren't aware that Colorado has hundreds of different types of native bees. Most of us are familiar with the honeybee, but many people haven't learned that honeybees were introduced by Europeans and are not native to this part of the world.

Climate change is having a huge impact on pollinators and their habitat. Pollinator Advocates learn how to counter some of these impacts by creating healthy habitat for pollinators. The bonus is that pollinator habitat is also part of the solution to climate change.

Have you heard before about native plant/pollinator habitat as a way to combat climate change?

How do you plan to use what you learn as a Pollinator Advocate? Please choose all that apply.

An important part of being a Pollinator Advocate is sharing what you have learned with others as part of  a community-wide effort to increase pollinator habitat across the city, and to encourage other people to be open to gardening and landscaping in ways that help pollinators.

Each of us has different ways of interacting with other people, and there’s no wrong answer to this question. As a Pollinator Advocate, you will have opportunities to get involved in different ways to share what you’ve learned with others. Please select one answer that best describes you.
