This quiz will look at a few different types of rug. Why not get somebody to help you read through this information and then look at the questions? :)
New Zealand rug - worn by the horse when he is turned out in the field. This should be waterproof and tough enough to cope with being rolled in! They come in different weights - a heavyweight rug has more padding so is warmer.
Stable rug - worn by the horse in the stable! These aren't usually waterproof; instead they're padded and cosy. Horses usually wear them overnight in the winter when the temperature dips.
Exercise sheet - worn by the horse whilst being ridden. Usually this just covers up the horse's hindquarters (his back/bottom). Sometimes waterproof, but not always - good to keep clipped horses warm without having to work really hard.
Fly rug - horses mostly wear this in the field. It's lightweight so it isn't too hot, but it fits quite closely to stop flies from getting in and annoying the horse.
Fleece cooler - this is a lightweight rug designed to keep the horse from getting too cold, without making him overheat! It's often used when the horse goes in the trailer or horsebox.
