WHAT IS A DEACON?Deacons are one of two God ordained offices within a local church. They exist to lead in serving the church. Their tangible service allows the church's pastors/elders to fulfill their responsibilities of spiritual oversight and the administering of God's Word through prayer, teaching, preaching, soul care, etc.
A church in which Deacons and Pastors fulfill their unique calling is a church that fires on all cylinders and honors God in the proper care and provision of His people. Deacons are to be involved, present, and active in supporting the unity and mission of the church.
Deacons are God's servants given to God's church.
DEACON QUALIFICATIONS
- Good reputation and full of the Spirit (Acts 6:3)
- A man of wisdom (Act 6:3)
- Worthy of respect (1 Tim. 3:8)
- Sincere and not double-tongued (1 Tim. 3:8)
- Not addicted to much wine (1 Tim. 3:8)
- Not greedy nor pursuing dishonest gain (1 Tim. 3:8)
- Have a clear conscience and in pursuit of deep faith (1 Tim. 3:9)
- Tested and viewed as blameless (1 Tim. 3:10)
- Faithful wives (dignified, not slanderers, sober-minded, faithful) (1 Tim. 3:11)
- Husband of one wife and a faithful manager of his children and home (1 Tim. 3:12)
