Animal Caregiver Team Member Position
Part Time

Unity Farm Sanctuary is looking to build our team! We are hiring year-round animal caregiver(s) to build on our current team, part-time options. We are open 8am-6pm Sunday-Saturday. We are currently looking for staffing Sunday-Saturday 8-4 or 10-6, but also possible to have after-school shifts Monday-Friday. Individuals must be self motivated, able to regularly lift 50lbs, be willing to learn, and have the ability to be flexible and work well with others. A good sense of humor will stand you in good stead here! Preference given to those with farm animal experience (including equines, cows, goats, sheep, llamas/alpacas, donkeys, pigs and a variety of chickens and water birds).

Job Description:
-$18.00/hour to start with limited prior experience for part time. Increased starting salary is commensurate with prior experience or full time hours

-Part time
-Must be able to regularly lift 50lb grain bags and hay bales multiple times a day
-Must like to be outdoors, and be prepared to do so in all types of weather
-Must have reliable transportation and a valid MA/RI drivers license and valid MA/RI residency

Responsibilities:
-Reports to the Shelter Manager/Assistant Manager
-Feeding - feeding animals at their scheduled times 8am/12pm/3pm/6pm
-Watering - refill and clean water sources
-Cleaning animal enclosures (including: stalls, paddocks, houses, coops, and runs)
-Assisting in animal restraint (with vet and farrier visits or for nursing with staff)
-Equine/Equid care (hoof picking, walks, brushing, bathing/hosing off/fly spray/blanketing etc.)
-Assist or perform goat/sheep/alpaca hoof/toenail trimming
-Apply animal medications, with training.
-Assist volunteers with occasional heavy tasks as designated by the Volunteer Coordinator
-The Sanctuary will train for use of John Deere gator and other equipment including but not limited to weed-trimmer, leaf blower, power washer, tractor. Must be able to drive the Gator vehicle.
-Assist with basic maintenance of property when needed, including setting up for events
-Other Sanctuary tasks not specifically listed above

Individuals should have the following traits:
-Self motivated and able to work efficiently
-Confident and comfortable working with animals
-Adaptability, Flexibility, and Dependability
-Have the ability to work independently, and the ability to work and communicate with others as a team depending on the task at hand.
-Be observant, have the ability to see what needs to be done, and the ability to notice when something is out of place or not working, then inform manager
-Have a strong work ethic 
-Have the ability to do physical labor
-Genuinely care for the animals
