Chromebook Scheme Form
Chromebooks for Learning

Arts and Media School plans to introduce a Chromebook Scheme for students to enhance the teaching and learning experience from September 2020. We believe that using Chromebooks will empower our students to become well informed, responsible digital citizens and lifelong learners.  Once our students have access to their own devices, we firmly believe the scheme will bring enormous educational benefits.

During the current COVID 19 pandemic the Google Chromebook and access the entire Google for Education learning suite has proved to be a powerful and durable resource that will has enabled our students and teachers to learn and teach online very successfully.

What is a Chromebook?

A Chromebook is a kind of laptop computer, running Google Chrome as its operating system. The device is used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications and data residing in "the cloud". Chromebooks differ from a normal laptop in that a robust ‘device management system’ allows for strict monitoring of use, internet filtering and other vital e-Safety restrictions whilst in school.

Why have we introduced the Chromebooks for Learning scheme?

Arts and Media School have been working with Google Apps for Education and Chromebooks for the past 3 years on a regular basis in lessons. The use of Chromebooks does not replace, but supplements our existing learning strategies. Importantly Chromebooks give students seamless access to Google Apps for Education, (G-Suite) which are being used increasingly across the school to enhance the learning experience. ‘Google Classroom’ in particular is an extremely powerful application, which offers collaborative and interactive educational activities, effective online feedback and improved communication between teacher, student and even parent. They are proving to be invaluable in the current situation, facilitating remote learning and allowing learning to continue in these difficult times.

Do you have to take part in the Chromebooks for Learning scheme?

We must stress, however, that the scheme is voluntary. Special provision will be made for those who choose not to join it, to ensure no-one is disadvantaged. Our preference would have been to purchase Chromebooks for all our students from school funds; sadly due to increasing financial pressures this is simply not achievable.

We are offering:
* Lenovo 100e Chromebook @ £145.00

The price of the same Chromebook at other sellers is in excess of £200.
