Girl Scout/Girls in Tech Robotics Team
Any girl in grades 6-12 may join our team. Girls in grade 6 will be considered "JV" and will be introduced to tools, coding, marketing, and FTC in general. They will be able to contribute to the current season's robot and attend qualifiers, but they cannot compete on the floor until they are in grade 7. We are looking for coders, builders, and gamers who can handle a game controller. Girls with graphic design and organizational skills can find a place as team administrators. STEM is for everyone!
If you are not a Girl Scout, you will need to become one. Cost to become a Girl Scout is $25. Please contact
pima.neighborhood@gmail.com for information on Girl Scout membership.
Time Expectations
The team meets from 12-3 on Sundays from mid-August to mid-February, and each girl can schedule at least one other week night that best meets their schedule. Attendance at meetings is dependent on the projects each girl is assigned (based on interest). Drivers, for example, need to attend together to practice but only after the robot is built. Coders, likewise, need access to the robot to do their work. On the other hand, girls who work on the portfolio and marketing pieces can work at home. There are three to four competitions per season, spanning a Friday night and Saturday from 7 to roughly 5 pm. Attendance at competitions is mandatory. The team also engages in extensive outreach. Girls are expected to make every effort to participate in as many of those events as possible.
