In applying for admission to the Huntington Beach Union High School District Math, Science, and Technology Magnet at Westminster High School, we understand that we must meet the requirements of the Magnet, which include the following: Student will maintain “C” average in all classes as well as a satisfactory record of effort, behavior, and attendance,Parent/guardian will monitor at least one hour/day/class of homework on weekdays and attend parent meetings, Student may not enter or leave the program except at the beginning of a new semester.It is recommended that all students entering MERITS as a sophomore complete at least 10 hours of community service prior to the beginning of sophomore year.  Please email Mrs. Gonzalez (kgonzalez@hbuhsd.edu) for a copy of the volunteer form!  I am aware of the above requirements and wish to participate in the Huntington Beach Union High School District Math, Science and Technology Magnet at Westminster High School. *
Choose a Science class:  MERITS sophomores must choose between either Bio/Biotech and AP Biology.  Please read the descriptions carefully before choosing your class.
Bio/Biotech - (recommended) - This class is definitely an increase in rigor and is very hands on, project based learning. 
AP Biology - This is a much more rigorous class.  So much so, that we DO NOT recommend it UNLESS you are currently in Accelerated Geometry or higher (earning at least a B) and are currently earning an A in Environmental Science or freshman science course. Please note, this class uses language on par with a college freshman.  Therefore, students entering should have a post high school reading level.  Be prepared for nightly readings!
