What is the purpose of The Five Precepts? *

Gotama Buddha required everyone to follow these rules or he would not teach you.

They are guidance for wholesome moral conduct recommended by Gotama Buddha for all people to practice. These are the minimum guidelines everyone should practice to obtain Enlightenment. We should implement these Teachings into our daily life to eliminate harm to other beings and reduce unwholesome Kamma production.

If you do not follow these rules, you will die.

Do not take anything that is not given to you. Only accept what is offered to you. We should not steal.

Abandoning sexual relations with women [men] who are protected by their mother, father, mother and father, brother, sister, or relatives; who are protected by their Teachings; who have a husband [wife or partner]; whose violation entails a penalty; or even with one who has been garlanded by a man [woman] as a sign of engagement.)? *

If you are a man, you should not have sex with a man. If you are woman, you should not have sex with another woman.

If you have sex with a prostitute, bar girl, or inside the sexy massage shop, its ok.

Anyone can have sex with anyone they like including children. If you want to have sex with someone else, just make sure their boyfriend, girlfriend, or their family does not find out. Just have fun and do it.

Sexual intercourse is an activity that should be done in a way that does not do any harm to other beings.

What does this mean? (The Fourth Precept: Abandoning false speech, refraining from false speech, a truth-speaker, one to be relied on, trustworthy, dependable, not a deceiver of the world.) *

We should only speak truth 100%. Speak in a way that does not harm other beings. We should have purposeful and wholesome speech at all times.

We have the freedom to say anything we want. Speak freely about everything. Its ok.

Gossip, slander, and lies are ok, as long as you do it in the way that the person you are talking about does not find out. Just don’t let them hear you talk bad about them.

If you do not know something 100%, just talk and spread whatever information you heard from another person. It will be ok if you do not know the full information.

What does this mean? (The Fifth Precept: Refraining from strong drink and sloth-producing drugs, the basis for heedlessness.) *

If you take drugs or alcohol, be sure someone else can drive you home. That way you will be safe.

Do not take any substance into the body that will cause carelessness, thoughtlessness, inattentiveness, uncalm, unawareness, or unmindfulness.

You can drink alcohol or take drugs once per year. You can do this on your birthday or at the New Year’s party. Its up to you.

If you would like to drink alcohol, you should do it on Friday and Saturday night. Just do not let your mom or dad know you are drinking on those days.

The most important Precept of The Five Precepts is? *

They are all important. Without practicing The Five Precepts, you will not be able to attain Enlightenment.

If I follow the law of our government, is that good enough to earn Enlightenment? *

No, you have to follow every law and everything the Buddha said or you will be reborn.

Just follow the laws whenever the police are around. When they are gone, just do whatever you want.

Yes, just follow what the government says…they always do everything correct.

You should follow the government's laws, but, these Teachings are how to live a wholesome moral life. By only following the government’s laws, you aren’t necessarily practicing The Teachings of how to live a wholesome moral life.
