What is Domestic Abuse /Domestic Violence(DV) including coercive control - PATTERN of behaviour used by one person to gain power and control over another person with whom they have or previously had an intimate relationship. It can be physical, emotional, psychological, verbal, financial and/or spiritual abuse.
Physical and financial abuse are crimes in Canada.
These behaviours usually follow a pattern rather than isolated incidents.

In this survey we have used the term "Victim" - The term is not intended to convey a lack of agency of the person victimized; it recognizes people’s strengths and resilience.
And also the term "Abuser"- refers to someone who has or is alleged to have engaged in family violence. This term is used for the sake of simplicity and is not intended to define a person or to be judgmental.

Other names for DV-  Intimate partner violence, family violence, wife abuse, spousal violence.

Who is this survey for? - Anyone who knows/witnessed someone else experience domestic abuse AND for anyone who is experiencing, or has experienced domestic abuse in the past (Victims and survivors).
