Broadway Shark Tank Round #2: Submissions

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10th at Midnight

Thank you for submitting your work for consideration in the upcoming round 2 Broadway Shark Tank. This event is a unique opportunity for writing teams to put their original musical/play to a panel of industry experts. This evening aims to provide an opportunity for exciting new works to be discovered and eventually make an important impact to a future Broadway season. The “Broadway Shark Tank” presentation will take place at Open Jar Studios, 1601 Broadway, 11th Floor on Monday October 2nd at 7pm (with sound check on Sunday Oct 1st)

Submitting to participate in Broadway Shark Tank is free and open to all writing teams who have completed at least a first draft of their original musical (whether it be in its “concept” phase, or has had a full development production).

To be considered for this round of Broadway Shark Tank, writing teams should upload the following submission materials into a dropbox folder:

  • Synopsis
  • For Musicals: Demo recordings (note that the names of the songs on the demos should match the names of songs you list on the form)
  • Script (or excerpts)
  • Plus anything else you want to share

NOTE THAT THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE is SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10th at Midnight. Teams will be notified by Monday September 18th. If you area ready to submit before Monday, please do. It will give us more opportunity to consider your work.

If selected, each show’s team will be allowed a total of up to 8 minutes to pitch your show to the panel (and audience in attendance. Your 8 minute pitch will need to include:

1) The pitch to the panel of producers (speaking about the show)

2) For Musicals: Present up to 2 songs from your musical. Songs must be performed live (an upright piano will be available). No performance tracks will be allowed. Please include demos of the songs (up to 2) that would you include in your pitch in the material you upload to your Dropbox folder.

For Plays: Present an except of your play. Please make sure to upload that excerpt as a separate file in the dropbox link you provide.

After your pitch, the panel will ask questions to the writing team.

Each writing team is responsible for covering any costs associated with presenting their work (stipend to their actors, pianist, etc.),

A sound system with 2 wired mics on stands will be provided.
