Award: Scholarships in the amount of $500. The number of scholarships awarded is decided on an annual basis, dependent on fund raising and senior class size.
Required Criteria:
1. A graduating senior electing to continue education in a two year or four year institution, trade school, or military service.
2. A participant in one or more of the following North Reading High School performing music classes for at least 3 school years: Band or Chorus. Jazz Band, by itself, is eligible if student plays piano or guitar. Participation in NOTEorious may be considered toward this requirement in cases of schedule conflicts that prevented enrollment in chorus. Consideration may also be given for 3 years of Piano classes and other ensembles such as Winter Percussion.
3. Consideration for a $250 scholarship will be given for 3 years of Color Guard in support of the Marching Band (if this is the student's sole involvement/ensemble).
4. Donated volunteer time to special events.
5. Demonstrated cooperation with the Music Department teachers, adjunct faculty, and volunteers, plus a willingness to put in extra effort to support of the music programs of North Reading.
How to stand out:
1. Individual participation in school-affiliated adjudication events (e.g. Junior or Senior Districts or similar) at least once during the four years: auditioning is considered participation. Selection into said event does not factor into the award decision.
2. This award is not based on grades or overall musical ability; instead, it is based on volunteerism, cooperation and respect of fellow students, music teachers and volunteers along with dedication to, and the love of, music.
