What is an internship?An internship can enhance the value of a student's education through the practical application of knowledge and skills under the supervision of an advertising or public relations practitioner.
A good internship agreement will require dialogue between the student and the employer/organization. The educational value of an internship depends most on the student's exposure to the practice of advertising and public relations. Therefore, an internship must consist of a position in advertising or public relations. The majority of work performed by interns must be professional in nature.
You may apply to receive credit for your internship by applying for ADV 493. Internships will vary in length, but it is recommended that they be at least 7 weeks long.

THINGS TO KNOW:Students in the Advertising Management and Advertising Creative majors may earn up to 15 credits through ADV 493. These credits can be distributed across multiple internships and semesters if you choose. You cannot earn more than 15 credits of any type of internship course. For example, you cannot take 15 credits of ADV 493 and also earn credit through SSC 493.
- ADV Management students - only 3 credits of ADV 493 can be applied to your ADV MGT Selective Course requirement. Any credits beyond 3 will be applied as a 3/400 level elective.
- ADV Creative students - credits earned through ADV 493 will be applied to your degree as a 3/400 level elective.
