Thank you for venturing into our Patron’s Programme, aimed at encouraging your desire to get to know an artist and their work whilst also supporting their professional endeavour.
The intention of the programme is to create a closer and more symbiotic relationship between the selected artist and you as a collector, which we hope will enrich your appreciation of the creative process an artist undergoes.
You are completing this form because you are interested in contributing to Jibril's studio rental in lieu of you receiving an artwork (of your choosing) at the end of the agreed period.
This form is dedicated to Jibril Linjoum Achu. Jibril''s studio is located on the Upper Ground of August House, Studio 1F. He has been at August House for just over 1 year and a half.
Jabril was born in Cameroon April 1983, where he attended the Baptist primary school in Bamenda. In was in primary school that he first found a love for drawing and sold his first drawing to his class teacher at age seven. From that moment on he was motivated to create. He started experimenting with any materials he could find. He went so far as collecting charcoal and chalk stones from a nearby river. He created work on paper, wood and even on the walls.
At the age of fifteen, he started attending arts classes at the Spee Arts Cultural Center in Bamenda, Cameroon. In 2000, he won third price for best national creative artist in collage, in a competition sponsored by the Delta Tobacco cooperation.
In 2006 he moved to South Africa to further his education and obtained a diploma in graphic design from Johannesburg City College. In 2019 he obtained his BA in Visual Arts and Education at the Johannesburg City College 2019. He currently lives in Johannesburg and practices at August House.
Jibril has won a number of awards and has participated in many group exhibitions:
- DELTA TOBACCO COLLAGE ARTS COMPETITION (Cameroon) 2000 -Third price winner
-INVESTEC ARTS AND CRAFT MARCKET 2007 (Sandton City, johannesburg) - Second place winner for best creative African painting work.
-BLACK LIKE ME GROUP EXHIBITION 2008-2009-2010-2011 (Manor Gallery, Four Ways, Johannesburg)
-MEET THE ARTIST PROJECT 2010-2011 (Soweto, Johannesburg) a nonprofit project by Johannesburg based visual and performing artists to promote arts and cultural education to the youths in Soweto.
-MOKATI 9 EXHIBITION 2010 (Studio Bella, Morning Side, Sandton JHB) an exhibition to support the Little Artist foundation Johannesburg
