First Meeting of the Harris Center’s Rock Hound Club for Families

Friday, August 4

4 to 6 p.m. at the Harris Center

Free of charge

Calling all rock hounds! Join naturalists Susie Spikol and Julie Brown for a different rockin’ outing each month from August through November. We’ll explore rock and mineral collections, visit geological sites, and connect with geologists, all while keeping our eye out for special stones, fossils, and more. During our first meeting, we’ll dig through the Harris Center’s extensive rock collection and hike to the Big Boulders to check out some glacial erratics.

After that, our adventures will take us further afield. Fall outings will include a visit to Beryl Mountain in Acworth on September 10, an exploration of Gilsum’s Mine History on October 7, and a field trip to the Beneski Museum at Amherst College on November 4. More details on those outings are available at harriscenter.org/events. Come rock out with us!

This is a club for families with elementary-aged children and up to attend together. Children must be accompanied by an adult for all meetings.
