Dear Incoming Freshman and Parents:

Incoming Freshmen Assessment is for 8th grade students with dance experience who would like to be considered for Dance 2, 3, or 4.  The assessments are Wednesday, January 24 and Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 4:15 - 7:30 p.m. Attendance both days is required. Dancers should wear what they would wear at their studio for any technique class.  Generally dancers wear: yoga/jazz pants, leggings, bootie shorts, or tights on the bottom and leotard or dance tank on top. Hair needs to be well secured off the face. No Jewelry. Only bare feet or paws are acceptable. Wearing all black is NOT suggested.  We often can decipher students by distinctive colors, hair items, etc.  Please do not be extreme or purchase anything new. Just keep in mind we are trying to memorize 90 or so new faces.  We also ask that dancers wash the clothing and wear it again on Thursday. This helps us to remember the students more accurately.

When arriving, please enter through parking lot E and proceed in through the Sports Center doors.  The assessment will take place in Dance Studio rm. 2010. This is on the second floor behind the Sports Center. We request that you arrive right AFTER 3:45 p.m. because our school buses exit the Lot at 3:45 p.m. each day and arriving during that process will be a traffic headache.  Also, if you arrive prior to that, you will need to show photo ID at the security desk.

We will begin check-in at 4:00 p.m. The assessment will begin around 4:15 p.m.  The first day of the assessment can be very overwhelming.   We do not add any new material the second day. Dancers perform back what they learned on Day 1. We will provide the titles of the music we have used so students have the option to practice. When dancers arrive home on Wednesday, encourage them to get a good night sleep and return for the second day. Eliminating oneself guarantees he/she will not be placed in an upper level class (Dance 2, 3, or 4), and should therefore register for Dance 1.  Also, please remember no one is being cut from the program. We are simply trying to identify the best level for each dancer.
