How to complete your application

To be considered for a TA position, you must be admitted to SJSU as a classified graduate student in good standing.  Graduate students in the math department and single subject credential students in Math/Stats have preference in hiring, but if there is still a need for TAs after all interested and qualified Math/Stats, students from other graduate programs may also be hired.

Important note #1: If you are a graduate student enrolled in degree program offered through Professional Education (i.e., a "special session" student), you are not eligible for the tuition fee waiver usually offered to TAs.  Those programs are listed here:

We therefore do not recommend that special session students work as TAs.

Important note #2:
When you apply to be a TA, you are also agreeing to participate in TA training, which takes place in person and on campus, and may begin as early as Mon Aug 12, 2024.  Therefore, you must be physically in San Jose, and ready to put in a full day of work, by Mon Aug 12, 2024.

Application requirements:
You are required to submit the following documents to complete your application.

1. This application form (all three sections).

2. A brief, typed personal statement.  This narrative should include your goals and objectives as a graduate student.

3. Completed and signed Statement of Professional Preparation and Experience (SC-1) form, found here:

https://www.sjsu.edu/up/docs/sc-1-statement-of-professional-preparation-and-experience.pdf

Please do not include your Social Security number on this form, as we do not need it yet.

4. Transcripts showing all college and graduate courses.  For consideration, we will accept unofficial transcripts, but we will need official copies for your employment paperwork.

5. Three signed letters of recommendation, sent directly by the letter-writers (and not via you).

Once you complete this form (item 1), items 2 through 5 should be emailed to:
