Radio Frequency Technologist of the Year Nomination Form

Eligibility:
Nominees in this category must have been employed in the applicable category by a public safety agency or contracted by a public safety agency in the applicable category at any time between September 1, 2022, and August 31, 2023. Nominees do not have to be members of APCO.  Persons submitting a nomination or being nominated must be; a.) Residents of the United States or its Territories OR b.) Residents of an International Chapter (not in a Global Alliance location) of APCO International, as contained in APCO Policy Manual Article XIII, Section 13.1 (Therefore, Canadian nominees would not apply).

Sample Responsibilities:
1. Manages the installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment.
2. Maintains knowledge of 800 Mhz,900 MHz, and P25 radio communications systems and equipment
3. Possesses experience in UHF/VHF radios, repeaters, digital/analog microwaves, and an extensive network of mobile radios.
4. Demonstrates ability to work with many different user agencies.
5. Prepares and maintains various records of maintenance and operation as required by the FCC, including the renewal of FCC licensing.
6. Installs and oversees the installation of radio site ground, antenna systems, security systems, carrier equipment (T1, DS3), emergency power generators, fuel systems, towers, transmission lines, and site alarm status reporting equipment.
7. Maintains current experience in state-of-the-art electronic equipment repair, including bench repair and radio transmitting and receiving equipment.
8. Plans for infrastructure additions, site expansions, and improvements as necessary to ensure coverage and systems reliability.
9. Develops and presents written and oral recommendations, budgets, and schedules for upgrading existing systems.
