Moving Out Swanson Road Fire Apartments
Thank you for all your support of our neighbors who lost their homes in the Feb. 10 fire on Swanson Road in Boxborough. Good news! People can now move out of their apartments.
Yesterday, the Dartmouth Group management company shared their plans for allowing people to access their apartments and remove whatever is salvageable. Each unit will be offered up to a whole day between Monday, May 24 and Saturday, June 12.
Now our challenge is to determine how much help we can provide these folks - three months after they lost their homes to fire. We’re looking for people to help pack, move, and/or transport any of the items that have not been irreparably damaged. When it comes to moving items out of the apartments, don’t worry if you can’t lift a couch! Lamps and other small items need to be moved out too!
If you would consider helping at any time, in any way, we’d love your input on this form. As always, please know this isn’t a firm commitment, just a sense of when you might be available and with what task(s). Some people had insurance which will greatly assist them with the expenses incurred during moving out, but many did not.
IMPORTANT: Some possessions have been damaged by fire, water, smoke, or mildew. While obviously residents won’t want to take these items with them, **they are still responsible for removing them from their units**. We are NOT asking volunteers to help with these sorts of items; we’re researching options to hire professional help.
Please respond as soon as possible, hopefully by Monday May 24. Many thanks!
