Participant evaluation of NECET talk on April 28th, 2024: "Residing in the Space Between: Suffering and the Dialectic of Hope and Dread" by Karley Guterres, MA, MTS
Learning Objectives:
  1. Participants will learn the ways that hope has been historically conceptualized in the field of psychoanalysis as progressive or regressive, and the clinical implications of those understandings.

  2. Participants will learn how to understand hope and dread as dialectical, referencing ideas from Stephen Mitchell, and the ways they can both be intrapsychically and socio-politically driven in psychotherapy.

  3. Participants will learn how to define and describe the intersubjective third according to Jessica Benjamin, and the clinical role that the third plays in the dialectic of hope and dread in psychotherapy.
