Student talk is a huge part of science literacy. How scientists communicate is an important practice that they use frequently. If students can learn to communicate in scientific ways, this can improve their abilities to make connections between big ideas and construct explanations both verbally and in writing. In this session for elementary science teachers, they will learn various student discourse strategies and talk moves to improve student engagement in science.
