Students in the Long Beach Unified School District in grade 5 may be eligible for free class instruction on violin, flute, clarinet, trombone or trumpet. If your student played violin in 4th grade, they may choose to continue in 5th grade. Students may participate in beginning flute, clarinet, trumpet or trombone instruction regardless of prior experience.

The class will be held remotely and will consist of a weekly assignment and one live Zoom meeting per week with the instructor. Students will be expected to participate in the weekly lessons and assignments for the duration of the school year.

LBUSD elementary schools have a limited instrument inventory for student use. Class enrollment will be based on the instrument inventory at each site. In the case of more students wishing to participate than there are instruments available, a lottery will be used for student placement. All remaining students will be placed on a waiting list and may be allowed to participate as instruments become available.

Based on instrument availability, every effort is made to offer students their choice of instrument.  If their choice is unavailable, students may be offered the chance to play another instrument. Parents are encouraged to voluntarily rent or purchase an instrument, but are not required to do so as a condition for participation.  Renting or purchasing an instrument does not give a student priority or preference for enrollment in the instrumental program.

In order for your child to be considered for an instrumental music class, fill out the attached form and submit it by: Friday, SEPTEMBER 25.

Los estudiantes en el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Long Beach en el grado 5 pueden ser elegibles para recibir clases gratuitas de violín, flauta, clarinete, trombón o trompeta. Si su estudiante tocó el violín en 4to grado, puede optar por continuar en 5to grado. Los estudiantes pueden participar en la instrucción de flauta, clarinete, trompeta o trombón para principiantes, independientemente de su experiencia previa.

La clase se llevará a cabo de forma remota y consistirá en una tarea semanal y una reunión de Zoom en vivo por semana con el instructor. Se espera que los estudiantes participen en las lecciones y tareas semanales durante el año escolar.

Las escuelas primarias de LBUSD tienen un inventario limitado de instrumentos para uso de los estudiantes. La inscripción a la clase se basará en el inventario de instrumentos en cada sitio. En el caso de que haya más estudiantes que deseen participar que instrumentos disponibles, se utilizará una lotería para la colocación de los estudiantes. Todos los estudiantes restantes se colocarán en una lista de espera y se les permitirá participar a medida que los instrumentos estén disponibles.

En función de la disponibilidad de instrumentos, se hace todo lo posible para ofrecer a los estudiantes su elección de instrumento. Si su elección no está disponible, se les puede ofrecer a los estudiantes la oportunidad de tocar otro instrumento. Se anima a los padres a alquilar o comprar voluntariamente un instrumento, pero no se les exige que lo hagan como condición para participar. Alquilar o comprar un instrumento no le da al estudiante prioridad o preferencia para inscribirse en el programa instrumental.
