Hit The Streets is a grassroots collective for the people, operating in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. Our not-for-profit community initiative is entirely donation driven and takes a boots-on-the-ground approach while serving hot meals and other basic life necessities, such as personal hygiene items and socks. Currently servicing Centertown and Vanier, Hit The Streets distributes these items on-foot and in-person while pushing an industrial cart or by driving.

Since most services for underserved communities are closed in the evening, Hit The Streets currently operates once a week after 6:00p.m. By choosing to perform mobile community support during the night time, we strive to reach more people while using best practices and maintaining social distancing measures to protect everyone involved.

We support survival sex workers, individuals living with mental health, substance abuse, individuals with limited or no shelter and those experiencing food insecurity (including single parent homes).

Please note taking photos and/or videos of the individuals we serve is STRICTLY prohibited. If you intend on volunteering just as a pat on the back and to use this opportunity to gain more followers on social media, this is NOT for you.

As an entirely donation-driven, spontaneous, community effort, Hit The Streets needs your support by the prep and execution of each run!

Volunteers will be given fixed stipends to offset gas and food. Volunteer positions are listed below in the application.

Volunteer Positions

We currently operate Wednesday after 8:00pm, and intend on adding another time and date.

With the exception of 'Distribution', 'Supply Driver' and 'Packaging' positions must be available the day before (Tuesday) distribution.

If you cannot accommodate the listed positions, but would still like to volunteer, please comment what you believe you can bring to the team!

Volunteer Position *
