Planned Parenthood Teen Council
Teen Council is a paid, year-long peer sex education program for Austin area teens in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year. Members are diverse and come to the group with different beliefs and viewpoints. No one is expected to already know about sexual health and prevention issues. Teen Council is anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-transphobic, and anti-homophobic.
Teen Council members must:
- Be a 10th, 11th, or 12th grade student during the 2021-2022 school year.
- Want to learn about and provide accurate sexual health information to others.
- Be able to balance their time and keep up with academic work.
- Commit to virtual weekly meetings every Monday + the first Wednesday of the month (5 meetings monthly) starting August 23rd through June 6th, 6 pm - 7:30 pm.
- Commit to a virtual introductory session on Saturday, August 21st from 1 pm - 4 pm. Attendance is mandatory for all Teen Council members.
- Plan other extra-curricular activities (work, clubs, sports, etc.) around Teen Council.
This application consists of demographic questions and long answers. If you are applying to be a new member, you will also be asked to provide the name and contact information of an adult who can be a reference for you. Choose someone who knows you from an educational setting, like a teacher, a school counselor, a coach, a school administrator, or an adult from any other activity that you participate in. This person should not be a parent, guardian or family friend.
Applications close on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
