NYT Opinion Climate Submissions
The New York Times Opinion section is looking for climate change-related stories from every country in the world, and we want local journalists to help find and tell these stories. In particular, we're looking for two categories of audio.

The first are sounds that reveal how climate has already remade the world around us — sounds of changed nature or environments. For instance, we've got an example from Fiji of a healthy coral reef (alive and crackling) and a dying reef (eerily quiet). For this first category, we want to hear how climate change is already impacting our world.

The second category of audio would be a short interview with someone who's been personally affected by climate change, who can talk about a particular kind of adaptation they've developed or been a part of, or who has personally observed climate change impact their home country, region, neighborhood. We are looking for stories that are rooted in a place — its traditions, its history, its geography. We want stories that could only be told in that particular country. For example, we have an interview lined up with someone from Jordan who lives on a farm there and who's seen the timing and quantity of the fig harvest change in recent years.

Do you have a similar story in your country? Can you think of a place or an industry or a way of life that is adapting before your eyes to climate change? Can you think of the person who can speak directly to that experience, or the sound that perfectly encapsulates it?

The final pieces of audio will be less than 30 seconds, but we'll do the editing in house. We'll work with you to gather longer recordings. We will pay $100 per story, with an additional fee for pieces that involve sourcing and recording an interview.
