We have had the task to create a web forum based on our choice of theme. We chose developers/nerds as our forum theme. The idea is to combine the principals of Reddit, Github and Stackoverflow and make into a forum for all sort of developers like coders, electrical engineering and much more like those.

The basic functionality of the forum is that you can post your projects like on Github, and then people can make threads within that project, comment or help with problems. So it is both for people to share what they make, but also to have a central place where you can talk with people about projects of all kinds.

The way it works is kind of like a subreddit, where the "subreddit" is the main project post, and then the project owner can make threads/posts that people can comment on.
