About Peek Show:
Impulse Theatre brings its sixteenth evening of new works-in-developoment to the Intrepid Studio on June 1, 2024.

Peek Show is an informal and exciting experience between artists and patrons, all discovering new stories and worlds for the first time. Peek Show showcases new works from provincial performing artists, from text, to dance, to somewhere in-between.

Peek Show 16 takes place at the Intrepid Studio (1609 Blanshard), a 40 seat venue that has street level access, wheelchair accessible seating configurations, and two gender neutral washrooms.

This Application:
We are seeking five to six in-development works from regional performing artists/companies/collectives..

Adjudication is based on your demonstration of ability to execute the project, artistic history, and available resources. Priority is granted to multidisciplinary projects.

Please note: due to the limited tech and performance time, technical requirements must be left to a minimum. Live sound cannot be connected to the PA system.
IMPULSE PROVIDES:
  • a 7 minutes performance slot (scheduled at our discretion) during the 7:30pm performance
  • 20 minutes of Tech
  • a mode to gather feedback/input from the audience
  • a $50-75 per artist honorarium for accepted projects
  • NEW: up to 1-to-2 hours of no-tech rehearsal at Intrepid Studio Thursday, May 30 or Friday, May 31 in the evening. We've never done this before, so we'll build the schedule based on need. Rehearsal time is TBD.
  • NEW: up to 1 hour of mentorship with Impulse's Artistic Producer, Andrew Barrett, scheduled during either rehearsal windows on May 30 and 31, or at a time determined between Andrew and participant.

NOTE:
We understand the precarious and risky place new work can occupy, especially personal material. We ask that you consider Content and Accessibility Notes in advance of the performance. Impulse Theatre is attempting to create a safe space for both audience and artist to take risks, and requires transparency between its artists and audiences to ensure that each is supported.
Relevant Policies
  • Communicable Disease Policy: We encourage all participants to self assess their comfortability with all aspects of Covid planning, prevention and awareness. Impulse Theatre communicable disease plan will be made available on our website.
  • Safe(r) Spaces Policy and Collaborator Agreement: all participants in any of our events must adhere to our Safe(r) Spaces Policy. Impulse Theatre asks that all Peek Show artists also agree to our collaborator agreement, which foregrounds consent, accountability, and collective learning.
There are three ways you can submit an application:

1. Google Form – Complete the following Google Form.

2. Audio or Video File – You can submit your answers to the questions in this Google Form in an audio or video file. These can be sent to andrew@impulsetheatre.ca Note: This is not meant to be a creative video submission. It is a non-written format of application. 

3. Conversation with Impulse Staff Member (via video chat) – an Impulse Staff member will read the questions aloud and record the answers of the applicant.
