Waubonsie State Park will be awarding up to 8 residencies to visual artists per year. Residencies may range from 2 weeks to 6 weeks in length, and dates may be subject to change depending on availability and other unforeseen circumstances. Artists may work in a variety of media. Residency awards include living and studio space in Waubonsie State Park, which is in the Loess Hills region of southwest Iowa. The studio location is identified together with the Park Manager based on the needs of the artist. The artist has access to work tables, handtools and a fully equipped woodshop if desired. Artists have access to a vehicle to perform residency-related activities during their residency pending approval and coordination with the Park Manager. Details about the facility with photos can be found at
http://www.goldenhillsrcd.org/artist-in-residence.html.
Artists are required to deliver at least one public program per residency and to donate one piece of art to the park at the conclusion of their stay. Due to COVID-19, the public programming portion is flexible (could be a virtual event, self-guided, or small and properly distanced/masked event). The Waubonsie State Park Artist in Residence Program is supported by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Golden Hills RC&D and the Friends of Waubonsie State Park.
We will accept applications from artists wishing to work at Waubonsie State Park in collaboration with another artist(s). Collaborators must submit a single application and if awarded a residency will share the living and studio spaces. Collaborators may submit work samples that represent their own personal work as well as samples of previous collaboration with the proposed collaborator(s).
