TRiO SSS and Cochise College are conducting a peer mentoring project this year to help students have a successful first year experience following a year of interrupted learning due to COVID-19.
While peer mentoring can provide valuable support for students at critical points in their student life, it offers a host of other benefits for both mentor and mentee. Peer mentoring is a mutual way of learning and allowing both participants to develop transferable skills that will help them during their time at college and beyond.
Peer mentors support students with organization, accessing college resources, and academic guidance as needed. In addition, peer mentors support students as they navigate the college’s social network and build college skills. This peer mentoring program is meant to be a support system for students.
This is a commitment of one full academic year. At a minimum, Mentors and Mentees will be expected to communicate in some way at least three times a month. Further guidelines will be provided once accepted.
BENEFITS FOR MENTEES:
* Mentees will be assigned a peer mentor to help them navigate their first year as a college student.
