Worth Ryder Art Gallery Internship Program, Fall 2022
ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Worth Ryder Art Gallery is an educational art space that has served as a cultural and artistic resource and community center for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, alumni, and the Bay Area community since 1960, and is a central social and artistic hub of the UC Berkeley Department of Art Practice.

Internships are open to ALL enrolled UC Berkeley Students, NOT limited to Art Practice majors or upper division students. Prior experience is not required. This is a for-credit educational internship, not paid employment. In return you will earn credits while learning about the day-to-day functioning of an art gallery.

Gallery interns will gain hands-on experience working in an art gallery environment and assist in all gallery operations related to exhibiting an art show and maintaining a gallery space.

Gallery operations include:

-Installing and de-installing works of art in all media
-Assisting student and professional artists
-Patching and painting walls and using tools
-Opening the gallery and welcoming visitors
-Planning and hosting art openings and events
-Marketing exhibitions, including writing
-Photographing art exhibitions and receptions
-Maintaining the art gallery library and equipment inventory
-Cleaning and organizing

DEADLINE

The priority deadline for applications is 11:59pm, Friday, August 5, 2022. After this deadline applicants will be accepted on an as-needed basis. The application process is competitive.
If your schedule changes after you submit this form, please re-submit it with your schedule changes.

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS

The gallery internship is a one to four credit, pass/fail course. In order to pass, students must earn 80% of the available points. Points are determined by:
-Attendance and punctuality
-Completing trainings and tasks
-Clear communication about their schedule and task progress

If a student needs to miss their shift, they need to:
-Communicate this with the gallery director
-Arrange for another student to to cover their shift
-Make up their shift at another time

All interns must be available for weekly Wednesday meetings from 12:10-12:50 pm;  further scheduling is flexible. Our first Wednesday meeting will be August 24, 2022.

To determine how many credits to register, see the corresponding required hours per credit. For example, 2 credits would be 7 hours (one hour for the Wednesday meeting and 6 hours at the gallery at other times).

1 credit = 4 hours
2 credits= 7 hrs
3 credits= 10 hrs
4 credits = 13 hrs

I will review the applications and notify you of my decision by August 17, 2022.  Selected interns will be sent registration information and their gallery working schedule.

Admission is competitive. Shifts are assigned based on your experience and availability. The earlier you return this form, the easier it will be to get your preferred shift. Program Director decisions are final.

I look forward to reviewing your applications!

Director, Worth Ryder Art Gallery
