MRD Season 16 Tryouts Registration

This is the official registration form for Madison Roller Derby tryouts for Season 16 (2019-2020). By filling out this form, you are committing to attending tryouts. Please read through all of the information below.

Tryouts are open to all 18 years or older, female or non-binary identified skaters and are most-appropriate for, but not limited to, contact-level skaters. Skaters participate at their own risk.

Tryouts to enter the MRD draft are Sunday, September 8 at 9:00am to 12:30pm and will be held at Fast Forward Skate Center at 4649 Verona Road, Madison, WI 53711. Doors open at 9:00 for waivers, photos, and Q&A. There is no fee to try out.

Makeup date is Tuesday, September 10 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm; doors at 6:15. Please do your best to attend the Sunday tryouts. Skaters who absolutely cannot attend either tryouts or the makeup date should select that option on this form.

Please note: trying out this fall is mandatory for any skater who wants to be considered during a mid-season draft.

Tryouts include a short interview and are structured similar to an MRD practice, including contact and scrimmage-type drills that allow skaters to demonstrate skater safety and WFTDA minimum skills. Competency with WTDA minimum skills is not required to enter the draft pool, but is a prerequisite for being drafted. Please bring athletic shoes, a water bottle, and a blue (or black) shirt and a white shirt to tryouts in addition to your gear.

Skaters who successfully complete the tryout will be welcomed into the draft pool of eligible skaters and attend draft month practices with MRD skaters. Cost for draft month is $40, due at the first practice.

Draft month runs Tuesday, September 10 through Tuesday, October 8 with the following practice schedule:
- TUE 6:30-8:30
- THU 5:30-7:00
- SUN 9:00-11:00

Draft night is Friday, October 11.

Each draft month practice will be lead by one of the MRD home teams or travel teams. Each home team will also hold a meet and greet outside of practice to continue to get to know each other. Details on the meet and greets will come later.

Drafted skaters will be notified after draft month ends and prior to draft night.
