TMMS Student Library Assistant Application

The main responsibilities of Student Library Assistants are:

  • To serve the patrons of the library

  • To care for the library and its collection

  • To learn and teach library and research skills

  • To create and manage library displays & the joy of reading

Please note that we have very limited spots and even if you are a great candidate, your CORE schedule and our library schedule may not work out for next school year. It is NOT a rejection of you, but may just be an inability to line up a schedule that works for everyone.

I like to describe being a Library TA as FEAST or FAMINE. Either we have a TON of projects everyone is diligently working on or you sit at the front desk and read a book or do homework. Your personality needs to be able to handle both situations. You need to handle the pressure of getting something done on time and the boredom of waiting or thinking of a new project without pestering me for stuff to do. You also need to think through problems for yourself. Looking for a stapler? Then actually look for it. You don't need to ask Mrs. White where it is at. Problem-solve for yourself!

Thank you for taking the time to fill out this application. Be thoughtful. Be honest. Be detailed.

Cleaning up around the library? Helping others find books to read? Giving book advice? Helping out with technology? Checking the shelves for alphabetical order and general cleanliness? Very carefully wrapping books up for processing? Something new? In this section, describe how your personality will be a bonus to the library as a student assistant.

Teacher Recommendations *
Which teacher(s) should I contact to give me a *character reference* for you?
A character reference is when someone you trust gives an honest, positive description about you to possible employer. HINT: I'm the employer. I want to know from your teachers, what type of worker you are and how you handle social situations.
