We are gathered here in your presence God.  Please guide us to listen to the message you are giving to us.  Help us see how we can keep the commandments in our lives.  Give us the strength and courage always to follow your way.  Amen.
INTRODUCTION: Wow! Great job on Lesson 1! Last week's lesson talked about loving and unloving actions; actions that can either bring people together or leave people out. It helped us to distinguish between mistakes and deliberate mean actions, and invited you to show loving actions towards others. We also saw how Jesus calls us to love all people through our actions with the story of the "Good Samaritan." You learned that Reconciliation is about more than just confessing our sins - it is about love. The love we show others when we make good choices, and the love others show us when they do good and loving things for us. Finally, you were introduced to the "Act of Contrition" prayer, which focuses on the prayer of forgiveness you will say at Reconciliation. What a great start! Now there is more to come in Lesson 2. So let's get started!  Untitled Title
TOGETHER IN JESUS: FIRST RECONCILIATION:  First, let's begin by locating your "Together in Jesus: First Reconciliation" Lesson 2 booklet. Also, be sure to have nearby the sticker sheet that came with your booklets. Once you have both of these, you are ready to go! Today's lesson is "We Keep God's Commandments." Take a close look at page 1 and identify the "unloving actions" that are going on in this classroom. You can list these actions below.
What is the first unloving action you see? *
What is the second unloving action you see? *
What is the third unloving action you see? *
What is the fourth unloving action you see? *
Can you think of something that will help this class learn together? *
Great job! If you remember in Lesson 1, Jesus was asked "Who am I supposed to love?" In response, Jesus told the story of the "Good Samaritan." That story told us that we are supposed to love everyone; but is it always easy to love everyone? The answer to that would be "no," as you can see from the classroom picture above. In the last question, could you think of something that the class could do to help them learn together? If you answered "having rules in place," that would be a great answer! How do rules help us? They help us to act in a more loving way. Some rules that would work for this classroom might be 1) we will keep our hands, feet and bodies to ourselves, 2) we will share, 3) we are kind to everyone, and 4) we will raise our hands to speak one at a time. These are just a few of the rules this classroom could use to help them to act in more loving ways. We need rules. Rules help us to be safe and happy. Rules can help us to play our games and act in loving ways toward others. We will talk more about rules, and in particular, God's rules in Part 2 of this lesson.
FIRST RECONCILIATION - "My First Confession Steps" Card: Last week, you read a little bit about preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, also called Confession or Penance. It was a brief outline of what happens in the confessional. Now, we will go into more detail about exactly what happens when you make your first confession. Find your "My First Confession Steps" laminated card. The card is a great way to see each step you will take and what you will need to say during confession. Please work closely with your Mom or Dad to practice each of these steps so that you are familiar with what will happen during your First Confession. Remember parents, I have told the children they don't need to confess their "real sins" when they are role playing with you, so if you hear something out of the ordinary, that is why.
Did you start working with Mom or Dad on your "My First Confession Steps" card? *
Super great job!  I want you to remember that "Reconciliation is a Celebration." It is a celebration of God's power to make all things new for us!! We will continue to learn more about this celebration as we continue our lessons!
