How did we do?
Our goal was to open the news process — to be radically transparent, to listen deeply and let that insight drive more nuanced and relevant coverage. We did that through conversations and multiple surveys, and kept people in the loop through a weekly newsletter update.

From January through April, hundreds of people participated our focus on seniors & COVID-19. It was a pilot project in what's called "engagement journalism."

Now we want to know what you think of the result to help Postmedia shape its next steps.

All our Groundwork coverage is at edmontonjournal.com/groundwork. The final series is running online and in the newspaper April 20 - 24.

Seniors & COVID-19
The first round of listening highlighted huge levels of anxiety around the vaccine rollout. So the first month, we focused on building a guide to answer community vaccine questions.

Then we turned to focus on isolation, resilience and low-tech options to reconnect. The final series (running April 20 - 24) is on what really happened during the pandemic both for seniors in care facilities and the community, including a look at the long-term issues behind the cracks and the chasms.

We're also planning a live Q & A for early May about how to prepare for when you or a loved one needs care.
What did you like about Groundwork and our seniors & COVID-19 coverage?
What did you think we could do better?
Let's keep talking...
Being able to connect with a diversity of community members has been the richest part of this project.
