Alder Commons Members are community members of all ages and backgrounds who agree to uphold our Core Values (Self-Determination, Collective Liberation, & Community Support), as well as contribute to iterative agreements that help us foster community together.

In consideration of how we can support working families in need of childcare, we’re gauging interest in opening Membership to a small group of young people, potentially beginning as soon as Fall 2020. The first cohort would have a maximum of 10 participants. While our long-term goals are for Alder Commons to serve people of all ages, the constraints of COVID are forcing us to make some concessions in the name of collective health.

As we determine feasibility of this program, we are asking interested families to answer the questions below. Please email hello@aldercommons.org or call (503) 893-9366 with any questions.

***Submission of this interest form does not guarantee a spot as a Young Member in our first cohort. This interest form is meant to help us gather information so we can decide how best to proceed in serving the community. We will communicate next steps once they are decided.

Sections include: Alder Commons Youth Memberships, COVID Safety, Expected Usage, Age & Demographics, Sliding Scale Fees, and Other Information.

Alder Commons Philosophy *
Alder Commons does not have a fixed schedule of activities or standardized curriculum -- nearly the entirety of the program will be focused on free play and self-directed activities (https://aldercommons.org/philosophy/self-directed-education/). We also require that the young people for whom you are signing up consent to participating in this program.
Required
If young people participate in this program instead of going to school, they would need to be registered as homeschoolers (a simple process).  If still enrolled in school, they can join us after school. *
Would you like help registering as homeschoolers?

Can you tell us a bit about why you're interested in Alder Commons as a drop-off program over other alternatives? *
How much do you feel like your family needs this program? *
An example of a high-need family (5) might be one with a single working parent and no child-care support from family in town. An example of a low-need family (1) might have a full-time stay-at-home parent.
