Dear Parent/Guardian:
 
My name is Mr. Psenicka, and I am the band teacher at Stewart School. The Garden City School District is known for their spectacular music program and have been awarded yearly as one of the nation’s “Best Communities for Music Education”. In our school district, children have the opportunity to begin their study of a band instrument in 4th grade. This instruction can allow your child to become positively involved in our school while developing skills in collaboration, self discipline, creativity, and critical thinking.
 
Band instruction consists of group lessons once per week during the school day. In addition, band rehearsals take place once per week starting when they meet a basic playing level.  
 
In the next section, please find videos of all the available band instruments. Please take the time to listen to and discuss with your child what instrument they would like to play. Have them select an instrument based on the sound that appeals to them most, not just the look. I also included a video going over some of the benefits of playing an instrument.

In the third section, please indicate his/her first, second, and third instrument choices. All three choices are necessary to insure proper instrumentation within our performing groups.

Please discuss the possibility of instrumental study with your child and fill out the attached instrument selection sheet by June 7th. I am looking forward to guiding your child to success through their new musical journey, and leading them through a joyful experience in Garden City’s instrumental music program.
