The Columbia Chronicle welcomes submissions of guest opinion articles on any topic with a connection to Columbia College Chicago and to our South Loop neighborhood. Submissions must be exclusive to the Chronicle. We will not consider work that already has been published on a personal blog or social media or that is written anonymously or under a pseudonym.
We consider only completed articles and do not guarantee publication.
Priority is given to students at Columbia College and members of our campus community. Please identify your connection when submitting.
We do not pay for submissions.
All submissions should be fact-based and follow the structure of an op-ed. They must be complete when submitted.
We reserve the right to fact-check and to edit pieces for clarity and length. Word count should not exceed 850 words. The optimal length is 550 words. Please do not submit work if you are unwilling to work with a student editor to ensure that your piece is accurate and that it clearly communicates your point of view.
We do not print unsubstantiated allegations or solicitations for causes.
Chronicle staff will write headlines. We also will edit for AP style and Chronicle style.
Please review
this for guidance.
We will do our best to read all submissions and will contact you within one week if we are interested in publishing your article. You may be asked to revise to fit our standards for publication.
We have limited staff for editing and fact-checking. Please give us time to respond to your submission. You will use this form to submit. Please upload your document. Do not email us with attachments.
After you have submitted, please email Opinion Editor Vanessa Orozco to let her know.
Please note that this form is for guest op-eds only. Letters to the editor should be submitted using
this form. Letters are meant to be responses specifically to Chronicle coverage.
