School Program
Volunteers have the opportunity to join a classroom and experience first hand how the Japanese school system works by playing with the kids and helping the teachers. There's no specific role, just be playful with the kids and helpful to the teachers.
Animal Welfare
I
In our Animal Welfare program, we focus on helping animals (mainly cats) in life-threatening situations. That includes helping with the rescue process and/or transport; caring for cats/kittens in shelter; cleaning litter boxes; caring for community cats, helping with capture, spay, neuter projects, and the rehabilitation of injured stray cats.Special Projects
We also have a special project's program that includes maintenance, DIY, gardening, digital presence, and social media, etc.
For your information, our in-house volunteers have a set schedule of 25 hours a week. These efforts support the Japan Cat Network rescue cats and larger efforts to help people help animals in Japan.
JCN Kyoto provides:
1. Basic accommodation (6-8 people in 2 traditional Machiya houses)
2. All the necessary support and logistics for you to have a positive and productive volunteer experience.
You must cover the cost of:
1. Transportation to and from the volunteer house
2. Food (only some very basic food is offered)
3. Travel Insurance
