El Círculo Juvenil de Cultura is a volunteer-based Outreach Program of the Hispanic Studies program at Carnegie Mellon University. We organize workshops aimed at helping Spanish-speaking children 6-12 years old maintain and develop their relationship with the Spanish language and their Hispanic/Latin@ culture. Workshop sessions are two hours long and usually take place on Sunday afternoons on the CMU campus. More information can be found at
http://circulocmu.blogspot.com/p/trabaje-con-el-circulo-work-with-us.htmlVolunteers are typically native or hereditary Spanish speakers, or have an intermediate to advanced command of the Spanish Language. Experience working with children ages 6-12 is a plus, but not necessary.
If you are interested in volunteering with our program please fill out the form below. Information collected from you will be used solely with purposes related to volunteering with Círculo Juvenil and will not be shared with other parties.
Also, please note that volunteers will need to have applied for Criminal, Child Abuse, and FBI fingerprint clearances before being able to work with the children. CMU students, faculty, and staff can visit
https://www.cmu.edu/hr/resources/child-protection/act-153/index.html to set up and appointment to get cleared. The state has said that clearances are good for 5 years so volunteers who were cleared in the last couple of years are still cleared.
