Expression of interest: NSW Wrestling Camp in Japan 2024

Thank you for your interest in the NSW Wrestling Japan Training Camp 2024. Please read the following information carefully before completing the application form.

Event Details: NSW Wrestling is excited to announce its second Japan Training Camp, scheduled to take place at Tosu Technical Highschool in Fukuoka, Japan, from May 5th to May 15th, 2024 (dates subject to minor changes). Similar to our successful trip in 2023, this 8-10 day camp will host a team of 10 dedicated athletes from NSW.

Financial Information: While NSW Wrestling covers the entire cost of the training camp and training facilities, athletes are required to contribute to other travel expenses, estimating a total out-of-pocket commitment of approximately $2500-$3000. The expenses athletes are expected to cover include:

  • Flights from Sydney to Fukuoka
  • 8-9 nights of accommodation (approximately $60 per night, with the option to share and reduce costs)
  • Meals
  • Travel insurance
  • Other incidental travel costs

Participants are expected to book their flights with the team on certain dates, emphasizing that this is a training camp and not a tourist trip.

Code of Conduct: Maintaining the highest standards of behavior and good character is paramount to us. NSW Wrestling reserves the right to ask individuals to leave the camp at any point if there is misconduct or disrespect towards our officials, athletes and hosts.

Eligibility:

  • The level of the training camp and the intensity of the traning sessions is high. This camp is targetted towards advanced level wrestlers only. To be considered you must already be ranked top 1-2 at the national level (in freestyle at senior or junior levels) along with being in excellent physical preparation.
  • This camp is available for NSW Wrestlig members only. However subject to availability, we may consider high-achieving and exceptional athletes from other states at an additional cost in our 'reserve' spots.
  • This camp is targetted towards 18+ athletes. However we may consider applicants under the age of 18 who are accompanied by a parent/guardian.
  • Other selection criteria includes: Adherence to Japanese hosts' requirements regarding the number, age, skill level, and size of athletes. They want our team to be a good match with theirs.

Application Process:

  • Filling out this form does not guarantee a spot, as we have strict skillset/age requirements and limited spots for this camp.
  • All applicants undergo a rigorous selection process based on:
    • Previous competition results.
    • Upcoming competition results in early 2024 (NSW State Championships in February)
    • Upcoming performance in NSW Wrestling's State comp in Feb 2024.
    • Character assessment.
    • Coach feedback.

Timeline:

  • 01-02-2024: Application form closes.
  • 30-02-2024: Successful applicants will be confirmed prior to this date.

Membership Requirement: To be considered, applicants must be current members of NSW Wrestling. We will verify official competition results and may contact your coach for reference and evaluation purposes.

Thank you for your dedication to NSW Wrestling. We look forward to receiving your application and potentially having you join us for this incredible training opportunity in Japan.
