At sarAika movement collective, founded by immigrants and queer women, we are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the dance ecosystem by creating multidisciplinary collaborative performances that highlight topical issues and personal insights.
Thanks to the support of generous people like you, we have had a significant impact in 2022 with over 50 performances, including our debut evening-length show, "Stella, Come Home," commissioned by et al. in Theater, and a performance at The Museum of NYC. In 2023, sarAika was honored with a Spoke The Hub award, which gave us the opportunity to create our first solo production, received a RedTail residency at JCAL, and toured Japan. Recently, we were commissioned by IATI Theater to create an evening-length show and were selected as resident artists for 2025 by University Settlement.
Your contribution will directly support the next secured productions:
- To compensate the playwriter and choreographers/directors for creating an evening-length show for and about senior immigrant women at University Settlement's performance project residency in Lower East Side. The honorarium the residency will provide us can cover only the cast and the technical support.
- To cover the traveling cost of bringing a choreographer, Katia Tubini, from Italy in January 2025. This initiative provides a performance opportunity for emerging dancers based in NYC to gain international choreographic performance experience without having to travel abroad. As former international dance students, we understand the financial difficulties of learning abroad. Therefore, we aim to bring international choreographers to NYC using our global network.
