RSVP - Dr. Shanna Corner Lunchtime Talk
Please let us know if you will be able to attend Dr. Shanna Corner's talk on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at 11:30 in OLDH 827.

Dr. Corner's talk is titled, "Female Genital Cutting: The Contestation and Spread of a Global Human Rights Norm."
An abstract is below:

At the intergovernmental level, norms against female genital cutting (FGC) have become well-established. However, variations exist in the ways countries and individual people respond to these norms. In this class, we will examine specific ways global FGC norms have influenced policies in different countries and individual people’s perspectives on FGC using findings outlined in an influential sociological study (Boyle 2002; Boyle et al. 2001). We will use these findings to briefly discuss and reflect on notable theorizing about the global diffusion of human rights norms.
