Dear Australian Dragon fruit growers

As the President of the newly-formed Australian Dragon Fruit Growers Association (August 04, 2021), I sincerely invite you to participate in the 2021-2022 dragon fruit industry stocktake survey. Currently, our members include growers from the Sunshine Coast, Wide Bay and Northern Territory.

With the growth of dragon fruit cropping in Australia recent years, our industry faces many challenges such as competition from cheap imports, unfamiliar pests/diseases, and lack of information source. A comprehensive industry information is needed to understand what are the growers’ concerns, so that they can be addressed accordingly at industry level.

The last industry survey was conducted in 2012 by Rural Industry Research & Development Corporation (now AgriFutures). With the rapid change of industry landscape, much information in that report is out-of-date. The current industry stocktake survey aims to update dragon fruit industry status to underpin strategic planning and R&D priority setting in the future.

The stocktake survey form is designed to collect related data to develop a database of tree number and an estimated of industry value. The data also helps to develop a strategic plan to address growers’ mostly concerned issues in the next a few years (e.g. how the industry will cope with competition of cheap imported fruits).

The survey is estimated to take about 10 minutes to complete. Your participation is voluntary and we do NOT collect identification information. You may decline to answer any questions and you have the right to withdraw from participation at any time. We, Australian Dragon Fruit Growers Association Inc., are proud to lead the survey to serve the whole industry, with the support of Central Queensland University and AgriFutures.

Again, we greatly appreciation your participation and support.

Sincerely

Jim Nie

President, Australian Dragon Fruit Growers Association
